Game Vision Statement

INTRODUCTION

The title of the game that I am designing is called "Shrunk" It is a third-person maze / puzzle game that places you in the shoes of a lab assistant working on new technology when something goes horribly wrong and it is up to you to fix it before it gets any worse. The game Is designed for the PC using Unity as a game engine and based of a simaler idea to the games "I am Bread" and "I am Fish" by Bossa Studios and the movie "Honey I shrunk the kids" by Joe Johnston

DESCRIPTION

In the game Shrink you play as a lab assistant working for a professor who is working on shrink ray technology and while it it does work if the object ramanes shrunk for 24 hours then the effects are irreversible and can't be undone. One night while cleaning up after another day of experimentation and calculation you accidentally switch the shrink ray on and it blasted you and knocked you out . When you finally wake up you find that everything is large then you realize that you have bean shrunk down to ruffly the size of a mouse or a rat and begin to panic when you realize that you have bean unconscious for around 11 hours meaning you only has about an hour left to revers the effects or else be stuck like this forever. Due to your now small size you will have to find a way to navigate and climb the now large finisher to make your way up to the table that the shrink ray is on to switch the settling to grow then find a way to climb back down to grown level and get on to a platform to return you to your normal size and leave the lab immediately to tell the professor what had happened.

GAME GENRE

The genre this game is based on is based on the mazes genre which is a sub genre of the puzzle genre where you have to find a way to navigate the the room that you are in in order to reach your goal and detestation as fast as posable and without many mistakes like in the game "I am Fish" where you had to get to the body of water without breaking your container of water. As for the style genre for this game "Shrunk" is going to have a cartoon like look to it simaler to the game "animal crossing".

GAME PLAY

The controls for this game are vary straight forward and simple to use with the up key for forward, the down key for backwards and the left and right keys for turning and finally the space bare for jumping so as to help climb the furniture along with other obsticulas and to help navigate. There will also be a few objects that can be interacted with that will make traversing the game area more easy. However many of the the object wont be of any help in doing so but it is for the player to find out.

RESOURCES REQUIRED

For this game to work all it requires is some simple and basic components and C#script such as moving moving foreword and the ability to actually control the movements of the character. another mechanic that is needed in the game is the ability to jump in order to maneuver around certain obstacle in the game as well as mass colliders so that some of the objects can be interacted with.

  1. Hi Bernard! After reading your game vision statement, I found that you are also doing a maze puzzle game like me and I think it's cool! However, your game is also very unique from mine as you added a really good back story description about what happened before the game started. I also like how you added few objects around the game place that the player can use to help them finish the game but you didn't only give the item straight to the player and the have to find it around which I think is a really good idea to keep them concentrate to your game, it will also give a sense of achievement to the players if they discovered it.

What are the rewards that you will give to the players after they have completed the game? Also, is there going to be a some hint for the players to use in case they couldn't find the special object? I hope my comment will help you improve your game more and I wish you good luck making your game!

  2. Hi Bernard!
I really love your game idea; I think it can be developed well and a really fun game to play! I really enjoy your writing because you describe everything really well and it was really easy to grasp and understand. It painted a picture in my mind! You can see through your writing that you've really thought about it. I was going to say how it reminded me of Honey I shrunk the kids and then I read it inspired you! I like the idea of you're against the clock trying to undo being shrunk or you're stuck like that! That's a really good idea! Would there be hints or subtle hints in the maze? like an arrow you wouldn't. see straight away? What if you had to collect small gears during the maze to complete the game too? I Really enjoyed it overall, Best of luck! -Megan
