Beta

After many weeks of rechursch, testing and looking back on past tutorials as well as the help of my lecturer Shaun Ferns I have managed to create a playable game for my beta. It was hard at first as I came upon a few problems with the manics such as infinite jumping  and in the last week I had to completely change how I controlled my player as they where in reverse, left was right, up was down, as well as make my player a simple shape instead of a person but I have put a lot of work into this game and I am hopeful that it is enough for me to pass as this is the first game I have made. I have tested it and have found no new problems or bugs in the game. I have met all my task for this game. 1. I have created the environment 2. created the player  3 created the mechanics to control the player and make them jump 4 added some animation to my button  5 given the game music  to make it more interesting to pla...

After much trial and error I have managed to finish the core mechanics how my controller and jumping as well as having some animation to portions of my game with the button. However I have been having trouble with my player character jumping for infinity but with the help of my lecturer Shaun Ferns he found a way to fix it but unfortunately for some reason my player was no longer able to rotate left and right and the controls where reversed so that backward was forewords and left was right. So I decided that the infinity jump was just a small problem and abandoned trying to fix it , instead just giving my game a roof. I am know trying to animate my player movements, as of right know I have managed to give my player the idle animation but I do not know how to change to walking and running just yet but I am looking into solutions for this problem. First playable

I have made  significant  progress in the development of my game. I have attracted the camera to the player characters as a child object in order to make the camera fallow my player when he moves and turns. However I have bean having trouble with jumping, I was fallowing the instructions from a tutorial  5 but for some reason when testing it I was only able to jump once and was not able to do it again. I and also not sure how to add the triggers to the button and the X platform as you need to interact with them to win to show that the game is won or not. However I am looking into the problem.  I have also managed to add an animation to the button so that the red cylinder to go down when the player triggered with its box collider.   (before trigger) (after trigger) link  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JS4k_lwmZHk&ab_channel=SpeedTutor

prototype

The prototype of my game,"Shrunk" is going well, I was able to find premade furniture in the asset store that was free as well as textures so it made my life much easier when it came to making the environment for my game, a lab. I have also managed to acquire a character model to use for the player to control. Nothing has fallen through the floor yet so I am hope full that I will not experience any problems while making my game but unity can be vary tricky. I well be taking pits a pieces from past tutorials in order to make this work. However I have bean having some problems with the lighting but I believe I have fixed it. I also feel I will have to abandon a few of aspects like the coin collection in order to focuses on the core macanices of the game such as jumping and triggers but I am hoping to keep the timer. I have bean looking through videos on YouTube on gravity and mass colliders and the past tutorials...

Game Design Document

Image
Game Design Document After examining and fallowing the advice of the materiel from Reading I have created my own Game Design Document or GDD  in order to help me stay on track and show others what my plan for the game is. As I have said before my game "Shrunk" is inspired by other puzzle/ navigation games such as "I am Bread" and "I am Fish" and is meant for people of all ages who enjoy a simple puzzle. (Image of the Player balancing on a wire in the game link to here) This is an embedded Microsoft Office presentation, powered by Office .

Game Vision Statement

Image
INTRODUCTION The title of the game that I am designing is called "Shrunk" It is a third-person maze / puzzle game that places you in the shoes of a lab assistant working on new technology when something goes horribly wrong and it is up to you to fix it before it gets any worse. The game Is designed for the PC using Unity as a game engine and based of a simaler idea to the games "I am Bread" and "I am Fish" by Bossa Studios and the movie "Honey I shrunk the kids" by Joe Johnston DESCRIPTION In the game Shrink you play as a lab assistant working for a professor who is working on shrink ray technology and while it it does work if the object ramanes shrunk for 24 hours then the effects are irreversible and can't be undone. One night while cleaning up after another day of experimentation and calculation you accidentally switch the shrink ray on and it blasted you and knocked you out . When you finally wake up you find that everythin...

Game Idea Research

After giving it much thought I decided that moving forward I would go with my second idea that was based on the games "I am Bread" and "I am Fish" where you play as a person who has been shrunk down and has to climb up to the table to the shrink ray in order to get back to normal size. Now I just need to find out how to make the game work luckily the Unity tutorials I did for week 3 and week 4 have all ready shown me how to make my character move and how to control them but for this game to really work I also need to find out how to make my character jump in order for them to get around some of the obstacle that I have in mind fortuitously I have found a video on YouTube that showed how to add it to my C#script. Unlike in I am bread where you controlled individual corners of the bread in mine you will just be the full body as it seems too awkward to do. However another problem I have is due to only using pre made environments so far, I h...

GAME BRAINSTORM

Image
(my brain storm for game ideas)   The first game idea that I came up with is a racing game, it felt like a rather good idea since so far the only tutorial we have done in unity involved cars, where you as the player will take control of a car and have to race along the track in the limited amount of time the is given to you by me and you get a point for each lap that you complete in the given time. I got the idea to do a racing game after seeing a walk through of Mario Kart on YouTube so the style will be similar but much more simple due to my inexperience with unity. For my layout I was thinking, since it was inspired by Mario Kart and they are known for their crazy and odd environments, the background for the game would be outer space and if  possible  have the track going around the sun. As for the track its self I figured that I would make a relatively standard race track with it starting off with a few different obstacles like crates and...
