Reading 05

Image
At first I found it to be quite difficult to code all of my papers as I hade to look through all my bibliography's in order to find any common factors or key themes between them all. However after reading over them a few times I managed to find the common factors I used three key phrases when coding my papers those where " appreciation is important as it mean you care which mean that you are enjoying your self" which I high lighted in yellow, " Immersion sucks you in to the game"  which I high lighted in light green and " challenge and reword" which I high lighted in red , However the papers where more acoceated the second phrase involving immersion. I am proud of what I managed to find but I may have missed some miner pieces for one key when I was looking for pieces for another so I took a few times to reread before I got all the important parts.   https://docs.google.com/document/d/1AMryjuL2tBYLJxlnvQm0hLkhkKUSvqM3AN7OTlj0I-4/edit?usp=sharing

Unity Tutorial 04 semester2

This tutorial was vary helpful as it showed me how to give my characters animated movements, last semester we where given premade animations to use so it was nice to learn how to make are own even if we where already given the pieces. However I did come across a few problems such as creating a new clip but I soon learned I had to select the game object first another was samples I could not find it but eventually I figured out that I hade to alter the settings. Another thing that this tutorial taught me how to create projectiles for my character to use on there enemy's, and while I had all ready learned how to do so in a 3D game this showed me how to do it in a 2D game. I was a little confused when I got the error lines involving the  null reference but that was soon cleared up with step 6. This lessens will be extremely useful should I ever decide to make a 2D styled game in the future.

Thank to reviewing of last weeks annotated bibliography I know have a better understanding of what is required when making one. I even improved my previse three as well as completed this weeks six new ones. This week I focused on papers related flow theory, immersion and gratification. The use the library database and google scholar it was extremely easy to find papers and studies related to my subject, however what was not easy was finding papers and studies that did not require some kind of membership or payment in order to downloads. But In the end I managed to six appropriate papers to create my  annotated bibliography from. In the end I think the papers that I have found will be vary helpful when making my on section, " Games for Entertainment",  of the paper with the rest of the group. Unity Tutorial 03 semester2

This tutorial was very helpful as it showed me how to add a certain amount of health to my character as well as how to add a limit so that it doesn't keep picking up any more items when there health is full. However I was experiencing some technical difficulty's near the end of the first part, " Collectibles World Interactions - Collectibles", but it was eventually fixed. I also learned how to add a damage zone to an object. I also learned how to make moving enemy's that can give damage to my player I had some problem getting him to move at first however as I fallow the instructions to the letter but I later learned I forgot to set the speed of the enemy in unity  as it did not tell me to do so and once I did they started to move. This weeks tutorial was vary helpful however as I have said before it would have bean easier to fallow if it had videos to show me what to do instead of step by step instructions. I had two main problems when it came to making my annotated bibliography, the first problem I had was actually finding recourses that where relevant to my chosen section based on the theme of " Games for Entertainment", however after a while of searching through the collage library database I managed to find papers and articles relevant to games and entertainment. However I had to include some more key words to my own list such physiological and entertainment in order to reduce the number of irrelevant papers in the database. The second problem that I had was reading through the papers and articles that I chose in order to find all the relevant information needed to write an annotated bibliography which means that I couldn't just skim through it but instead be thorough when reading it, which quite a while, luckily the papers I chose all had abstracts so it help give me a general idea of what the authors  was looking for  and how they where going to do it. The tutorial this week was vary simple and easy to fallow they helped show me how add 2D obstacles in to a game and as well as all the different steps needed to make the objects interactive. I also learned about pivots and how to arrange it so that my character can go over it or behind it depending on where it is places. I also learned about the 2D version of unity rigged body and collision components which are quite similar to there 3D versions. However I did have a slight problem with when I added the rigged body to my player as he kept falling off screen but it was solved once I turned of the gravity. I also learned how to give specific tiles collision attribute that my it doesn't look like my player is walking on top of water and how to have on collison around a large group of tiles instead of individually.  This tutorial was really helpful in the future and easy to understand.

I have to say this tutorial was vary helpful and taught me the basics of how to create a 2D game, such as how to make basic controls with the arrow keys. and it also helped remind me of some of the basics on how to use unity which I adment I forgot a bit of over the brake. However I was having some technical difficulty's when trying to save my progress but it was soon resolved, I am also a bit disappointed that this tutorial did not have videos to explain what to step by step like in last semester I also feel that it made the tutorial a bit more hard to do. In this tutorial it also taught me more about project setting which I feel was only skimmed over in last semesters tutorials. This tutorial has also shown we how to use tiles and how to change there size in order to make the background of the game.  This will all be vary helpful if I ever make a 2D game in the future.

TWITTER TASK 06

TWITTER TASK 06 P1 I learned of some new ways to find reshurch for projects thought the use of the library database. I also found an easier way to make references thanks to learning about refworks. #dmed2023 — Bernard MacDonagh (@BernardMacDon14) February 5, 2021 TWITTER TASK 06 P2 How ever I still need a lot more experience working with the online library and refwork as it will most likely help me in the future with other assignments. #dmed2023 — Bernard MacDonagh (@BernardMacDon14) February 5, 2021

Today many people in my class where choosing what chapter and sub-section they where each going to do for the academic paper we are all going to begin making next week, luckily I had already done so the week before and choose the sub-section "Games for Entertainment" for chapter 1, and made a list of different key words that I hope will allow we to find research much easier. (image of key words) We also learned from a woman named Lindsay Dowling who works in the collage library how to find information for are different sections through eBooks and academic papers with the use of the TU Dublin Blanchardstown  online library  thought the use of the database as well as how to order and pickup books from the campus and how the digital books will delete them selves once the time is up and there due, which is vary helpful because then I don't have to worry about be overdue. Another helpful piece of information was how to sight into refwork which will be vary helpful to avoid pla
