Games Stories

STORY IN A GAME

One of the reasons that people play video games is not just because it might have fun game play but I might also have a compelling that catchers the customers attention and might buy it so that they can see it through to the end, an example of a game with a complying story are Red Dead Redemption 2 and Witcher 3. One of the ways of doing so is by looking at how movies and plays present story's to see what works and what doesn't as well as what can be adapt to work for a video game. One of the main forms of making a complying story is conflict.

MAIN STORY FORMULA

The main formula for a compelling story are as fallowed

(1)First, there's a protagonist, a hero.

(2)His or her world is thrown out of order by an inciting incident. (Look at the sabotaged dope deal in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City for a good example of this.)

(3)A gap opens up between the hero and an orderly life.

(4)The hero tries the normal, conservative action to overcome the gap. It fails. The world pushes back too hard.

(5)The hero then has to take a risk to overcome the obstacles that are pushing back.

(6)Then there is a reversal. Something new happens, or the hero learns something she didn't know before, and the world is out of whack again. A second gap has opened up.

(7)The hero has to take a greater risk to overcome the second gap.

(8)After overcoming the second gap, there is another reversal, opening a third gap.

(9)The hero has to take the greatest risk of all to overcome this gap and get to that object of desire, which is usually an orderly life.

CHARACTER

Another key feature of a story is the character/player/protagonist from how he looks and dresses to what there personalty is can go a to improving the story are they funny, are they serous, are the selfish? These aspects can make a big difference to the story of the game and as such The world of the game should be designed (and often is-this is one thing games already do well) to oppose the player.

NARRATIVE

A narrative is an impotent aspect of a story, as while story creates the world around the character and there friends while the narrative is there adventure in that world and choices they make like mass effect, where the choices the player has to make can effect the end of the story as well as how the side characters view the player. Some game companies specialist in multapal choice narratives such as telltale games with walking dead or wolf among us, however telltale game mostly only gives the illusion of choice as while they can decide how other characters view you the main narrative examples of this are in walking dead it doesn't matter if you save charlie or dug both will die in the next episode the same way keeping the narrative actually quite liner. But there are games that have choices that actually give real choices and consequences such as westerado where you hunt down an outlaw by gathering clues but other then that you can parity much do what ever you want even robbe the bank of  the main town which causes  you to not be welcome there again and if you do you will get shot and allows you to kill.
